Parking
Chough’s Nest Hotel has its own private parking for hotel guests. It is fully flood-lit at night.
The car park is located at road level. As you drive down North Walk, you will see the hotel up on the left. Carry on straight past the hotel, and you will find our car park about another 50 yards on the left.
There is one parking bay allocated per hotel room. We recommend guests reverse into a space.
Please leave your car registration number with reception so we can identify vehicles.
Directions
By Road
From the M5, take Junction 23 and follow the A39 via Bridgwater and Minehead towards Lynton & Lynmouth.
At Lynmouth, take the hill up to Lynton and turn right at the top. Continue to Lynton town centre, then take North Walk Hill beside St Mary’s Church, which leads onto North Walk.
Local Bus Routes
309/310 to Barnstaple
The 309 and 310 are a regular services running to Lynton & Lynmouth from Barnstaple bus and train stations. For more information view the Stagecoach website.
Local Taxi Services
Lynton & Lynmouth taxi services are available for local journeys and offer airport transfers to Bristol or Exeter. They also do luggage transfers and pick-up and drop-off for walkers along the coast path and over Exmoor.
Walking
Chough’s Nest Hotel is located directly on the South West Coast Path (SWCP) route.
The Valley of Rocks and the historic Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway are all within easy walking distance, making the hotel an ideal base for exploring Exmoor National Park without needing to use your car.
By Train
The nearest rail station is Barnstaple, with regular services from Exeter and connections to the national rail network.
From Barnstaple, the 310 bus service provides a direct route to Lynton & Lynmouth, or local taxi services are available for the approximately 45-minute journey.
Nearest Airports
Our nearest international airports are Bristol or Exeter.
Bristol Airport is approximately 2½ hours away by car, while Exeter Airport can be reached in around 1½ hours with links by train and bus via Barnstaple. Car hire is available at both airports, making onward travel to North Devon straightforward.
Walking the South West Coast Path
Whether you’re walking to the west from Porlock or eastwards from Combe Martin, Chough’s Nest Hotel is easily reached along the South West Coast Path. We’ve included the most straightforward walking routes below, along with information on luggage transfer services.
Porlock to Lynton
If you are walking the SWCP from Porlock, then you have two ways to get to us from Lynmouth.
- On foot, you can take the steep uphill zig-zag path from Lynmouth which comes out onto North Walk. Follow the road to the right, crossing the last cliff-railway bridge, and continue for another 200 yards to the hotel.
- If you are taking the Lynton & Lynmouth funicular railway, then you need to walk from the station. Follow the wide path to the left towards town, then turn left on Lee Road towards St. Mary’s parish church. North Walk leads downhill from the church on the left, follow the road straight at the foot of North Walk Hill, crossing the last cliff-railway bridge, and continue for another 200 yards to the hotel.
Combe Martin to Lynton
Arriving in the Valley of Rocks, take the path from the roundabout in the middle of the valley and follow the cliff-top coast path for about ¾-mile. Pass through the ‘goat gate’ onto North Walk and continue for another 300 yards. You will see Chough’s Nest Hotel on the right.
